James Earl Carter jr. was the 39th president who was born on October 1 , 1924 in Plain, Georgia, Jimmy carter accomplished many important achievements as president and even before. He was an advocate for civil rights and represented that through his actions. For example, in 1970 he won the governor election and immediately started making changes to the racial divide going on within the states. He increased the number of African American state employees and he equalized the funding of schools in rich and poor districts of the state. During his presidency, he reconstructed and improved several executive branch departments such as: the department of health, education, and welfare by dividing them into two cabinet levels. He not only reconstructed some departments , but he created one too. Jimmy carter was big on energy conservation in order to reduce America's reliance on imported oil; therefore he created the department of energy. Likewise, one of his greatest accomplishments was the agreement of peace between Israel and Egypt. He played a huge role in the diffusion of international crises and is known “ for his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development “ ( the Nobel committee). Jimmy carter also established diplomatic relations with china and signed SALT II, which didn't go through but was symbolic for peace. Moreover, jimmy wouldn't let all he stands for be forgotten, him and his wife Rosalynn founded The Carter Center in 1982. The center improves mental health and life through its partnership with Emory University. The centers mission is to advance peace and heath worldwide which it has accomplished in more than 80 countries.
